In the second round of projects, each of the groups did a fantastic presentation on either one of the following topics: Gender Inequality, Infrastructure, and Climate Change. They took the liberty to go into depth explaining each detail about these social issues to truly inform the audience by opening their eyes to these issues and possibly, changing their point of view. These worldwide problems are issues that have been present in our day-to-day lives for over hundreds of years. Over time, each of these social matters has progressed either for the better or worse. For example, gender inequality has come a long way from where we first began and our social status. Infrastructure has progressed greatly over time, due to our advancement in technology to further better our structures and facilities. Lastly, in theory, climate change would only “get better” knowing we have these resources at hand showing where the earth’s health is going, you would safely assume we are attempting to improve it. 



Group 1 

The image above shows the simplest version of the before and after the earth has currently experienced. 

To begin, Group 1 was able to elucidate on the main issues around Climate Change. It would be assumed with our brand new technology advancing every day we would be in a better position. The world is currently in a crisis with global warming. The dictionary definition of global warming is “ a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.” To break down the definition a little further, the temperature in the atmosphere has been gradually rising due to multiple factors. The majority of these factors are caused by humans which in some sense can be related due to infrastructure. Humans throughout the centuries are progressing into the future with any new discovery/advancements they accomplish as for example, with the lightbulb or really any new invention. Yes, these discoveries make life easier, however, it is damaging the world in the process. An immense amount of factories are constantly pushing out toxic fumes into the atmosphere which in the long run is damaging it leading to the point of no return. There are multiple ways where we can make a change in our daily lives to prevent the earth from further damage. One perfect instance is to reduce the amount of plastic we use. Single-use plastic unfortunately is extremely difficult to recycle and just ends up in our landfills and oceans. By reducing the amount of plastic we consume every day, it will eventually create a huge impact on the Earth. 


Group 2

This image shows a perfect example of infrastructure from a birds-eye point of view and the advancement it has today. 

In addition, group 2 had the window of opportunity to express information about the infrastructure. By the lexicon interpretation, infrastructure is defined as “the basic physical and organizational structures and facilities needed for the operation of a society or enterprise.”  A few examples of this, are buildings, roads, power supplies, and truly anything that is needed for transportation or work. The very first form of infrastructure we had was roads. This wasn’t intentional, but, the earliest roads became a thing due to the repeated paths used by humans on their forms of transportation or animals causing defoliation and erosion. From the 1760s until the mid-1800s, we had the Industrial Revolution which was a transition to a new manufacturing process in some parts of Europe and in the United States. This was the start of our advancement with technology, building machinery to better jobs and our daily lives. It was not only an era where machines were built, buildings now had a purpose. Children now had the opportunity to go to a location to learn as a school, and adults had locations to provide services and take/get their goods. Without infrastructure, we would not be where we are today. 


Group 3 

This image shows women of all different ethnic backgrounds standing united for one cause: Gender inequality. 

Finally, my group (group 3) had the opportunity to explain and inform the audience about everything revolving around Gender Inequality. Gender inequality date back to the earliest records known to man. Both genders are automatically pressured to fit in the ideal social roles. The role of the man having to provide everything for the family and the woman to be a “perfect” stay-at-home mother who takes care of the house and kids. History has shown us the standards or what is expected of each gender goes way deeper than that. For example, women are supposed to be fertile, agree and only seek marriage engagements, have competitive attitudes, and even endure domestic violence. To illustrate, men get pressured into being “a real man”, to drink too much or take unhealthy risks, be engaged in violence, and have higher rates of committing suicide. These social norms fortunately have evolved for the better over time. A woman can be independent and not having kids or a spouse is not frowned on anymore. Men are “allowed” to express their feelings more and be more present in their Child's life. Gender inequality is way more than just the social differences between a man and a woman. Currently, in our society, it is commonly known there is a pay gap between genders and even specifics of race and ethnicity. No matter the industry, whether it is in an office or in sports, a pay gap will always be present. An average woman's earnings would be estimated at around 80% of the average man's salary. It is insane to think the pay gap is defined solely by your gender instead of your qualifications. Gender inequality is also visible in sexual harassment. Women are encouraged to be open about their terrible experiences, yet, it is never known when a man experiences them. A social norm is men are always craving sexuality no matter the way it comes and should be “happy” something like that is happening so ideally they would be enjoying it. This is completely false.

     In these presentation the three topics that were presented were focused on global issues that affects our daily lives. The topics that were presented were global warming, infrastructure, and gender inequality. This topics are important to know especially now more than ever since it still plays a crucial role in our well being and environment.  Walfrido Maulini- Blog 2- Group 3      As  the class progressed, so did our presentations. for the second batch of presentations our class concentrated on concerns in which the United States and the world are having to deal with.
